Painting Walls with Moisture and Humidity Problems

Moisture and dampness are among the most frequently encountered problems by building owners in many regions of Turkey. Applying paint while ignoring this issue is only a temporary solution; the problem will recur in a short time.

Identify the Moisture Source

Is moisture entering from outside? (Facade insulation or waterproofing issue) Is moisture forming from inside? (Condensation — inadequate ventilation) Is it in the basement, ground floor, or attic? (Capillary water rise or seepage)

Paint application performed without identifying the source is not permanent.

Condensation-Related Moisture

During winter months, moisture accumulated on cold surfaces leads to condensation. Solution: Thermal insulation + regular ventilation. When selecting paint, breathable (diffusion-open) formulas should be preferred; plastic-based waterproof paints should be avoided.

Moisture from External Facade

If there are cracks, joint gaps, or insufficient waterproofing on the external facade, applying paint from inside will not solve the problem. External intervention is a prerequisite. Mold and Fungus Problem

First, clean the moldy surface with 5% bleach solution and dry thoroughly (24 hours). Then apply a fungicide-based primer. For the final coat, choose a paint containing anti-mold and anti-fungus additives. Through Luna Tones dealers, you can add this additive to standard interior paint.

Application Note

Do not apply paint on damp or freshly plastered surfaces. Application should not be performed until the surface moisture content drops below 15%. This ratio can be checked with a moisture meter.
